10/24大阪で、ライブ前にMatthewのTattoを撮らせてもらいました。
これについての彼自身の解説は、”ASK TRIVIUM“で答えてくれたとおりですが、再掲します。
それからこれは2006年の2月に聞いた話ですが、左腕内側の脇に近いところには何も絵が入っていませんが、そこは昔、受刑者が番号の刺青を入れられた場所なので、そこには墨は入れないんだと言っていました。

Q: 腕のタトゥーは日本を意識して？時間はどれくらいかかった？
A: 両腕に2つだけ代表的な浮世絵の模写が入ってる。右腕のは喜多川歌麿の「昇り龍」、左腕のは、月岡芳年の 「羅生門渡辺綱鬼腕斬之図」だよ。芳利の絵の方はタイトルがうろ覚えなんだけど・・・でもとても有名な日本の伝承話だよ。
右腕：輪郭に3時間半、色入れに8時間半。
左腕：ひじから先の輪郭に3時間半、ひじから上の輪郭に4時間半。
色入れはヒジから上に6時間、ヒジから下に7時間。
Q: Is your tattoo consciously Japan? How many hours did it take to tattoo?
A: the both and only two tattoos i have are both duplicate artist representations of ancient japanese pieces. my right arm is kitagawa utamaro’s “ascending dragon” left arm is yoshitoshi’s “watanabe no tsuna fighting ibaraki at rashomon gate”. i’m not sure if i got the title of yoshitoshi’s painting right… but it’s a very popular japanese folklore story.
right arm: 3.5 hours outline, 8.5 hours coloring left arm: 3.5 hours outline forearm, 4.5 hours outline upper arm, 6 hours color upper arm, 7 hours color lower arm.
